While carrying out a packing operation, you are commonly engaged in choosing the right packing boxes. One of the very important factors that we actually end up undermining during the whole process – is – of course – the packaging tapes.
What we don’t realise is the fact that if it’s the boxes that are holding your precious belongings, then it’s the packing tape that is holding your boxes together. So, you can well imagine how important a colored packing tape is for the whole packing operation! As such, in the course of the post today – we will be discussing a few effective tips with the help of which we can actually go on to choose the right tape – so that the packages are reaching safely to your consumers. Read on for details.
Check the Width of the Tape
Yes! Do that without fail. Do know for a fact that these packing tapes are actually made available in different widths – meant for different sizes of the boxes that need to be sealed. If you are packing a lightweight box, then using a 2” tape will suffice. However, for larger boxes 3” tapes are suggested. Now, most of the shipping operations are actually conducted with 2” tapes.
Now, the mistake that we end up committing in this respect is that we often end up using the 2” tapes for the larger or heavier boxes as well. Don’t commit this mistake. This might end up putting safety at risk. Are you in touch with a manufacturer or supplier offering masking tape or colored tape? A qualified professional will be able to suggest you accordingly in this regard.
Are you checking the adhesive as well?
Hot melt adhesive is backed by high initial tack and excellent holding power. So tapes with hot melt adhesive are used when boxes are shipped. One can understand why. Boxes in transit are usually exposed to rough handling—owing to which it is important to use strong adhesives. These tapes are also recommended while boxes need to be strapped together.
Acrylic adhesive, on the other hand, is used for boxes to be stacked in storage areas with variable temperature conditions. If you are using tapes with acrylic tapes for your boxes then you will be able to keep these boxes sealed for several years.
Focus on the thickness of the tape as well
Check the thickness of the tapes as well. The thickness of the packaging tapes is measured with the help of mils – or thousands of inches. The standard tapes are between 1.6 – 3 mils. The 1.6 mils tapes are sufficient for lightweight boxes. Large boxes need the ones backed by 3.0 mils thickness.
Please make sure that you are procuring your packing tape from a reputed supplier or manufacturer—a company, which has garnered a positive reputation for the quality of tapes offered by them. Seek personal recommendations from peers. Look up reviews and then determine whether or not they are worth your trust. Look out for packing tapes that are sturdy, durable and affordable at the same time.
